Job Purpose: To fabricate and assemble structural steel components, frames, and assemblies according to technical drawings, specifications, and safety standards. The steel fabricator will ensure high-quality workmanship to meet project timelines and quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and fabrication plans.
  • Measure, cut, bend, and shape steel using saws, plasma cutters, presses, and other metal fabrication tools.
  • Assemble, tack, and weld steel components using MIG, TIG, or stick welding techniques as required.
  • Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment safely.
  • Carry out grinding, drilling, and finishing to ensure components meet specifications.
  • Conduct quality checks on fabricated components to ensure accuracy and compliance with drawings.
  • Work collaboratively with welders, fitters, and site teams to complete projects efficiently.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition and adhere to company safety policies.
  • Follow production schedules and report progress or issues to supervisors.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Apprentice trained desirable, but not essential.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Fabrication and Welding (or equivalent qualification).
  • Proven experience as a steel fabricator or metal fabricator in a workshop or construction setting.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings.
  • Skilled in MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding.
  • Experience with hand tools, power tools, and fabrication machinery.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of workplace health and safety practices.
  • Effective communication and time management skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and handle heavy materials and components.
  • Comfortable working in a workshop or site environment (exposure to noise, heat, and dust).
  • Ability to always wear personal protective equipment (PPE).

Working Hours: Working hours, e.g., Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.- 4.00 p.m.
