Job Purpose: To fabricate and assemble structural steel components, frames, and assemblies according to technical drawings, specifications, and safety standards. The steel fabricator will ensure high-quality workmanship to meet project timelines and quality expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and fabrication plans.
- Measure, cut, bend, and shape steel using saws, plasma cutters, presses, and other metal fabrication tools.
- Assemble, tack, and weld steel components using MIG, TIG, or stick welding techniques as required.
- Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment safely.
- Carry out grinding, drilling, and finishing to ensure components meet specifications.
- Conduct quality checks on fabricated components to ensure accuracy and compliance with drawings.
- Work collaboratively with welders, fitters, and site teams to complete projects efficiently.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition and adhere to company safety policies.
- Follow production schedules and report progress or issues to supervisors.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Apprentice trained desirable, but not essential.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Fabrication and Welding (or equivalent qualification).
- Proven experience as a steel fabricator or metal fabricator in a workshop or construction setting.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings.
- Skilled in MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding.
- Experience with hand tools, power tools, and fabrication machinery.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of workplace health and safety practices.
- Effective communication and time management skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and handle heavy materials and components.
- Comfortable working in a workshop or site environment (exposure to noise, heat, and dust).
- Ability to always wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
Working Hours: Working hours, e.g., Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.- 4.00 p.m.
