Senior Project Manager – HV Connections / ICP / BESS Location: South West or East Midlands (Hybrid working with UK site travel) Salary: £90,000 - £110,000 + exceptional package Employment: Permanent The Opportunity JL Renewable Solutions is working with a growing and ambitious business operating across the UK's power infrastructure and renewable energy sectors to recruit an experienced Senior Project Manager. Our client delivers high-voltage electrical infrastructure, grid connections and renewable energy projects, with a strong pipeline of work across Independent Connection Provider (ICP), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar and substation infrastructure. With a growing portfolio of projects across the UK, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Manager or Senior Project Manager to take ownership of complex HV infrastructure projects and play an important role in the continued growth of the delivery team. The business is looking for someone who is technically capable, commercially aware and comfortable taking responsibility for projects from design and pre-construction through to commissioning and energisation. This is a hands-on delivery role with genuine opportunities for career progression. Key Responsibilities * Manage the successful delivery of HV electrical infrastructure and grid connection projects, primarily across 33kV and 132kV networks. * Take responsibility for projects throughout the full lifecycle, including design coordination, procurement, construction, commissioning and energisation. * Coordinate site managers, engineers, subcontractors and specialist suppliers to ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme and within budget. * Develop, monitor and maintain project programmes, identifying potential delays and implementing corrective actions. * Work closely with design and engineering teams to ensure technical requirements, approvals and construction activities are aligned. * Identify and manage project risks, particularly during pre-construction, civil engineering and enabling works. * Liaise with DNOs, IDNOs, clients and other stakeholders regarding grid connections, technical approvals and project milestones. * Maintain strong commercial oversight of projects, including budgets, variations, change control, cost reporting and margin protection. * Work collaboratively with commercial teams to manage contractual obligations and ensure accurate project financial reporting. * Oversee subcontractor performance, procurement activities and the coordination of materials and resources. * Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements throughout project delivery. * Support the preparation and review of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), commissioning documentation and project handover requirements. * Provide practical input into tender reviews, construction methodology, programme development and project delivery planning. About You We're particularly interested in speaking with experienced Project Managers and Senior Project Managers who have delivered high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects within the UK. Essential experience: * Proven Project Management experience within HV electrical infrastructure, grid connections, substations or power distribution. * Experience delivering projects involving 33kV and/or 132kV infrastructure. * Background working for an ICP, EPC contractor, DNO contractor, utilities business or specialist electrical engineering contractor. * Strong understanding of substation construction, HV equipment, electrical installation and associated civil engineering works. * Experience managing subcontractors, site teams, project programmes and multiple stakeholders. * Good commercial awareness, including project budgets, contractual requirements, variations and cost control. * Ability to identify and manage construction and programme risks proactively. * Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills. * Comfortable taking ownership of project delivery while working collaboratively with engineering, commercial and operational teams. Desirable experience: * Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar farms or renewable energy grid connections. * Experience taking HV infrastructure projects through commissioning and energisation. * Knowledge of DNO/IDNO connection processes, protection and control systems. * Experience working under NEC contracts. * Previous involvement in tendering, pre-construction planning or project mobilisation. What We're Looking For Our client is particularly interested in someone who enjoys being actively involved in project delivery rather than managing entirely from behind a desk. You'll be comfortable making decisions, taking responsibility and resolving problems independently, while recognising when to involve colleagues or escalate issues. Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail are essential, alongside the ability to build relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal teams. This opportunity would suit an established Senior Project Manager or an experienced Project Manager looking to take the next step in their career. What's on Offer? £90,000 – £110,000 basic salary, depending on experience. Additional benefits package. Hybrid working, with regular office attendance and travel to UK project sites. Exposure to technically challenging HV infrastructure, grid connection and renewable energy projects. Opportunity to join a growing business with a strong project pipeline. Long-term career development and progression opportunities. Interested? If you're an experienced Project Manager or Senior Project Manager with a background in HV substations, grid connections, ICP projects or renewable energy infrastructure, we'd be keen to hear from you.
