About the Role
We are looking for a caring and reliable Part-Time Chef to join our small children's residential home.
The home supports young people with emotional and behavioural needs, and mealtimes play an important role in creating a warm, homely environment.
You will be responsible for preparing nutritious, home-cooked meals, taking into account individual dietary needs, allergies, cultural preferences, and encouraging healthy eating habits.
You will work closely with the staff team to create a positive dining experience that makes young people feel valued and at home.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook healthy, balanced meals for up to [insert number] young people and staff.
- Plan varied weekly menus that meet nutritional standards and young people's preferences.
- Cater for special dietary requirements, allergies, cultural and religious needs.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen organisation.
- Complete daily food temperature records and cleaning schedules.
- Order food supplies and manage stock effectively within budget.
- Ensure correct storage, rotation and labelling of food.
- Minimise food waste while maintaining meal quality.
- Work flexibly to support birthdays, celebrations and special occasions where required.
- Promote a welcoming, family-style dining environment.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Chef or Cook.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Knowledge of food safety legislation and allergen awareness.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Friendly, approachable and able to work independently.
- Understanding of the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality.
Desirable
- Experience working within a children's residential home, school, nursery or care setting.
- Knowledge of healthy nutrition for children and young people.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
