About the Role

We are looking for a caring and reliable Part‑Time Chef to join our small children’s residential home.

The home supports young people with emotional and behavioural needs, and mealtimes play an important role in creating a warm, homely environment.

You will be responsible for preparing nutritious, home‑cooked meals, taking into account individual dietary needs, allergies, cultural preferences, and encouraging healthy eating habits.

You will work closely with the staff team to create a positive dining experience that makes young people feel valued and at home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook healthy, balanced meals for up to [insert number] young people and staff.
  • Plan varied weekly menus that meet nutritional standards and young people's preferences.
  • Cater for special dietary requirements, allergies, cultural and religious needs.
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen organisation.
  • Complete daily food temperature records and cleaning schedules.
  • Order food supplies and manage stock effectively within budget.
  • Ensure correct storage, rotation and labelling of food.
  • Minimise food waste while maintaining meal quality.
  • Work flexibly to support birthdays, celebrations and special occasions where required.
  • Promote a welcoming, family‑style dining environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Chef or Cook.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Knowledge of food safety legislation and allergen awareness.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Friendly, approachable and able to work independently.
  • Understanding of the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a children's residential home, school, nursery or care setting.
  • Knowledge of healthy nutrition for children and young people.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
