The predicted salary is between 36000 - 42000 £ per year.
Reporting to the Production Manager, this role has responsibility for Safety, Quality, Delivery/Throughput, Cost and People in the Section. The role will take direction from the Production Manager on section priorities to meet the targets for the department in line with business needs. In addition, the role will support the identification and delivery of performance improvement plans, including Zero Harm, Zero Defects, Productivity and OEE.
- Safety:
- Is responsible for HSE compliance, including section specific Zero Harm Boards and Risk Reduction activities.
- Is responsible for their own compliance to meet the requirements of the Leadership scorecard
- Quality – will support Zero Defects Programs, including process control, standard work and reduced variation for plant.
- Throughput – is responsible for performance to support the TOC Lines and Rates through Gates, On-Time to Schedule and customer requirements to support the Weekly Production and Sales Plan.
- Staffing – responsible for staffing levels, flexibility, Training and absence management and overtime to support Weekly Production Plan.
- Daily Flex – Is responsible for ESH/Variable cost control.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Will be accountable for leading, motivating and engaging with Team Leaders and Production Operators through effective communication e.g., team briefings, regular interaction on the shop floor, involvement in Zero Harm and Zero Defects teams.
- Is accountable for ensuring the daily plan is adhered to, and achieved by the production team.
- Is responsible for achieving throughput while meeting and exceeding productivity targets by reviewing and planning for:
- daily, weekly, and quarterly labour.
- equipment, tooling and supply requirements.
- Responsible for working with Team leaders to determine required staffing levels and support labor re-allocation across the plant as required.
- Will support management responsibilities including recruiting, and training employees; planning, directing work; evaluating and appraising individual performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Is responsible for flexibility of the workforce to address skills gaps and create an adaptable workforce and will be responsible for Training Needs Analysis for the team.
- Is responsible for all aspects of HSE within the department, responsible for any accident investigations, incident reporting (including updating Gensuite) and risk assessments. Must continuously promote safe systems of work and ensure corrective actions are closed out in a timely manner.
- Will support use of Process Improvement and Lean Manufacturing Tools such as SPC, FMEAs, 6S and Lean Sigma structured problem-solving techniques to drive improvements.
- Will be an area owner for 6S and attend weekly meetings communicate updates to all members of Operations team.
- Will be a key member of the Zero Harm process, driving PHA based risk reduction using the PDCA cycle.
- Will support Operation adherence to Preventative Maintenance Plan and will attend departmental Planned Maintenance review meetings as required.
- Will work with Human Resources on people management issues including disciplinaries, grievances, performance related issues and completion of Return-to-Work interviews in a timely manner.
- Ensuring Time and Attendance systems for the shift are approved in a timely manner.
- Will develop a working relationship with union representatives, keeping them informed of decisions and changes within the department.
KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATION/EDUCATION
- Must have a sound educational background and/or have equivalent experience within a supervisory role in a unionised environment.
- Able to support the deployment of department/business objectives into day-to-day plans and roll out and delegate to teams, able to clearly identify day to day priorities and create action plans to deliver.
EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrable experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrable experience and exposure to a union environment would be advantageous.
- Demonstrable experience in supervising people.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
- Must be able to demonstrate a range of supervisory skills such as delegation, coaching and support while able to interpret and challenge traditional behaviors and practices.
- Must drive Engagement and motivation within their team.
- Will act in a manner that maintains a positive and productive work environment with customers, clients, co-workers and suppliers.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels are essential.
