The Multiskilled Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all production and engineering equipment. The role focuses on the maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of key production machinery, with essential expertise in Multivac packaging equipment, as well as refrigeration systems (including Ammonia plants) and general food production machinery. The engineer will support production by minimising downtime, maintaining high equipment reliability, and ensuring all engineering work complies with Health & Safety, food safety, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering & Production Support
    • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on production equipment.
    • Provide specialist technical support for Multivac packaging machines, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.
    • Diagnose faults quickly and implement effective repairs to restore production operations.
    • Maintain and support refrigeration systems including ammonia plant equipment where required.
    • Ensure machinery operates safely and efficiently to meet production and quality standards.
    • Support installation, commissioning, and testing of new equipment and machinery.
  • Equipment Reliability & Maintenance
    • Maintain and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems across production lines.
    • Monitor equipment performance and proactively identify potential failures.
    • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation in line with company procedures.
    • Work closely with production teams to ensure equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
    • Support machinery upgrades and process improvements.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure all engineering work is carried out safely and in compliance with company Health & Safety policies.
    • Follow site procedures relating to BRC, food safety, and hygiene standards.
    • Participate in risk assessments, hazard reporting, and incident investigations where required.
    • Ensure correct use of PPE and safe working practices at all times.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and production performance.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering and production departments.
    • Assist with root cause analysis of equipment failures and implement preventative solutions.
  • Contractor & Site Support
    • Work alongside approved contractors during servicing, maintenance, and installation works.
    • Support statutory maintenance activities including fire systems, refrigeration services, and compliance checks.
    • Provide engineering support during audits and technical inspections when required.

  • Safety: Compliance with site safety procedures and zero safety incidents.
  • Equipment Reliability: Reduced downtime and improved machinery uptime.
  • Quality: Support production in maintaining product quality and audit compliance.
  • Maintenance Delivery: Completion of PPM schedules and effective fault resolution.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribution to reliability and efficiency improvements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • NVQ Level 3 / HNC / HND in Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi-skilled Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing Multivac packaging machinery.
  • Experience working in FMCG or food manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems or industrial refrigeration.
  • Experience working with production machinery, conveyors, packaging equipment, and automated systems.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across mechanical and electrical systems.

Working Hours

Monday to Friday – 6 am - 3 pm. Flexibility may be required to support production requirements and occasional breakdown cover.
