Job Vacancy: CAD Design & Project Engineer

JK Lifting Equipment Ltd is a leading provider of lifting solutions, delivering innovative design, engineering and project support across a wide range of industries.

We are looking for a talented

CAD Design & Project Engineer to join our growing team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys combining engineering design with hands-on project delivery . Approximately

50% of the role will involve CAD design and engineering , developing bespoke lifting equipment and engineered lifting solutions, with the remaining time focused on managing projects from concept through to completion.

The Role

Working closely with our engineering, operations and site teams, you will design lifting solutions, produce manufacturing drawings, and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

You’ll play a key role in transforming customer requirements into practical, safe and compliant engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality 2D and 3D CAD drawings for bespoke lifting equipment and engineered lifting solutions.
  • Develop detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings and technical documentation.
  • Design lifting beams, frames, spreaders and other bespoke lifting equipment.
  • Carry out engineering calculations and structural assessments where required.
  • Work alongside fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable and cost-effective.
  • Revise and improve existing designs based on customer feedback and operational requirements.
  • Maintain drawing revisions and engineering documentation in accordance with company procedures.
  • Manage lifting projects from enquiry through to completion.
  • Develop lifting plans and engineering solutions that comply with industry standards.
  • Coordinate project schedules, resources and budgets.
  • Support installations and provide technical assistance during project delivery.
  • Prepare technical documentation, risk assessments and project reports.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on time and within budget.

  • Meet with customers to understand project requirements.
  • Provide technical advice and innovative engineering solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments including Operations, Sales and Site Services.
  • Build strong relationships through excellent communication and customer service.
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant legislation, standards and industry best practice.
  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout all engineering activities.
  • Support continuous improvement of engineering processes and design standards.

Qualifications

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong CAD experience (Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor, Auto CAD or similar).
  • Experience producing manufacturing and fabrication drawings.
  • Understanding of structural steel fabrication and mechanical design.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience within lifting equipment, cranes or heavy engineering.
  • Knowledge of LOLER, BS 7121 and lifting industry standards.
  • Experience carrying out engineering calculations.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration.
