Together, we are working to build a better digital future for education and research.
About the role:
This role offers a structured 4‑on, 4‑off shift pattern (two days followed by two nights, 07:00–19:00/19:00–07:00), giving you predictable rotation and a clear work–life balance. Alongside the 38.5‑hour working week, you’ll also benefit from a generous 25% shift allowance, making this an excellent opportunity for those who thrive in a hybrid, round‑the‑clock operations environment.
You’ll be part of our Ops Desk, working closely with our 2nd and 3rd line teams. Operating 24/7 on the same 4‑on, 4‑off rota, the Ops Desk is responsible for proactive monitoring and fault resolution. Within this team, you’ll take ownership of 1st line activities across our network, security, and cloud products, playing a key role in keeping our services running smoothly.
Responsibilities will include:
- Proactively monitor customer networks via our internal monitoring system, investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving issues
- Provide incident management and technical resolution of 1st line network and security related faults and prompt escalation to 2nd line when required
- Accept, agree and carry out tasks assigned by the team leader as related to the team’s primary objectives
- Provide end to end incident management throughout the incident lifecycle
Key Skills and Experience:
- Hold a valid full UK driving licence and be capable and willing to travel and work away from the based location – at times, out of normal working hours
- It would be great if you have a vendor equivalent qualification such as Juniper/Cisco/Security Associate Qualification
- Active use of corporate systems
- Can present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences, and facilitate collaboration between stakeholders who share common objectives
- Fully understands the importance of security to own work and the operation of the organisation. Seeks specialist security knowledge or advice when required to support own work or work of immediate colleagues.
We know that sometimes people can be put off applying for a job if they think they can’t tick every box, so we encourage you to apply even if you do not meet 100% of the requirements, but if you feel this role is perfect for you. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles!
Specific patterns for working in the office are not mandated, and the frequency of time worked in the office is agreed with your manager. Meeting in person is something we value, so you may need to travel on occasion to any of our hub offices.
