Position Overview: This is a newly created position and the first dedicated sustainability hire in Europe. Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, you will help build JD's capabilities in Sustainability and ESG from the ground up.

What you'll do:

  • Establish the EUDR compliance programme including private label and retail products for the seven in-scope commodities, lead supplier geolocation data collection, and help with readiness ahead of the deadline.
  • Manage JD's Modern Slavery reporting, ensuring the annual statement reflects genuine supply chain mapping and audit activity including for China-sourced private label.
  • Support the CSDDD value chain due diligence programme.
  • Support a repairability programme for electronics and appliances.
  • Monitor CBAM developments and their implications for China-sourced goods.
  • Establish Scope 1, 2 and material Scope 3 carbon measurement across JD Logistics warehouses and van fleet.
  • Support the CSRD/ESRS programme – provide support to Finance preparing first reporting.
  • Support the establishment of retail-facing sustainability initiatives including green label products.
  • Support the delivery of a range of sustainability initiatives across the business.

About you:

  • Strong experience working in sustainability, preference for experience within an international company.
  • Enthusiasm and passion for Sustainability and working within an entrepreneurial business.
  • Solid working knowledge of EU sustainability regulation – CSRD/ESRS, EUDR, ECGT, CSDDD, and the ESPR framework.
  • Experience managing supply chain sustainability programmes, ideally with China-origin sourcing exposure.
  • Comfortable operating as a first hire – building measurement systems, supplier engagement processes, and reporting frameworks without an established function behind you.
  • Strong data and reporting skills; experience working with external assurance providers is an advantage.
  • Able to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical action across commercial, logistics, and sourcing teams.
  • Mandarin language skills an advantage given the scope of supplier engagement required.
