Job Title: Director of Merchandising, Accessories

Reporting to: Senior Vice President, Merchandising and Licensing

Role Purpose:

To ensure profitable development of the brand by evolving and executing the strategy for the collections, working closely with CEO, SVP, Design Team and Product Developers for bags, slg’s, belts and others.

Assist SVP in coordinating global needs with the sales teams (Retail and Wholesale) to make sure the strategy is in line with the commercial needs of the business.

Participate in the development of the global brand image through a complete understanding of the collection process from inception to end consumer, ensuring the highest level of quality, creativity and commerciality in the product presented.

Work closely in collaboration with the internal Design Team, Product Development and external Manufacturing Team.

Coordinate the development and launch of new product functions and categories while ensuring the success of existing ranges. This role covers both Women’s and Men’s Accessories.

Key Responsibilities and Duties :

Execute and evolve strategic brand and company objectives

  • Participate in developing a clear strategy of collection including range planning, global market needs, functionality, quality, prices and financial margin targets.
  • In Coordination to Retail Merchandising ensure to plan and reinforce carry over ranges, enhancing strengths of the products and improving weak areas.
  • Research core competitors, introduce new functions and product categories to increase brand appeal, profitability, distribution range while increasing financial margin targets.
  • Work closely with Retail GMMs and Wholesale to ensure global product needs in different geographical regions are met in line with core competitors in each region.

Co-ordination of the Collection

  • Assist with set up and maintenance of the seasonal development calendar for Design, Merchandising and Product Development teams.
  • Following the development and setting up of each category from the first prototypes to the finished approved products, ensuring the pre-established timeframes are respected.
  • Prepare sample launches for each collection, finalise such launch with Senior Management and Design and coordinate timely communication of such details to all relevant parties.
  • Develop and manage industrial cost and collection global pricing strategy to achieve target margins stipulated by brand strategy and financial objectives.
  • Set up and maintain seasonal price lists for all bags, slg’s, belts and other accessories.
  • Work with Design and Product Development in optimising material selection, hardware development and production to ensure best possible balance across design, quality and price positioning.
  • Work with Product Development in negotiation and confirming industrial cost prices in relation to ideal retail price positioning in line with brand positioning, market needs and financial target margins.
  • Prepare RRP price lists for bags, slg’s belts and soft accessories, finalise such prices and margins with Senior management and coordinate timely communication on such details to all relevant parties.

Presentation of the collection

  • Work closely with VP Merchandising on collection presentation to Retail and Distribution teams.
  • Coordinate the set up and circulation of logistic and selling calendars for internal Retail, Distribution, Customer Service and external Manufacturing teams.
  • Oversee set up of collection overviews and internal documents for selling.
  • Oversee timely delivery of samples to showrooms.
  • Showroom set up.
  • Work closely with Retail and Distribution teams following collection presentation to approve and manage any additional requests or changes in the collection while ensuring key product initiatives are represented on each buy.

Production set up

  • Work with Retail Merchandising and VP of Supply Chain and Manufacturing team in confirming production planning and supplier allocation for bags, slgs, belts and other accessories.
  • Work with VP of Supply Chain to oversee update of internal system according to above production planning and timely transmission of production orders.
  • Work with internal Design team, VP of Supply Chain and external Manufacturing team in confirming collection fitting and industrialisation.
  • Oversee leather approval process.
  • Work with VP of Supply Chain and Manufacturing team on any possible cost saving initiative to further increase margins on volume items.
  • Work on a weekly basis with VP of Supply Chain and Manufacturing team on production flow, quality and any potential issue or delay.
  • Oversee timely management of Marketing assets and PR orders, special requests and in season re-orders.
  • Assist Customer Service, Wholesale and Retail teams in evaluating customer claims and returns, identifying issues and possible solutions.
  • Support in producing seasonal Product Training Information packages for retail, franchisees and wholesale teams.
  • Assist Wholesale team in providing customer training, when required (mainly to London based customers).

Other

  • Effectively manage the Accessories Merchandising team through development and appraisal, making sure the team understands their contribution towards company goals and objectives.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in Collection Merchandising
  • Suitable candidates will have a proven track record in a similar role, 10
  • This person will have an avid interest and understanding of the world of Luxury Fashion Bags and Accessories with strong commercial merchandising skills.
  • Able to travel.
  • English language spoken / written fluently.
  • Knowledge of Italian language preferred.
