Suffolk Glass are seeking an experienced Production Glass Blower to join Suffolk Glass/Jim Lawrence Lighting and Home team. You will become an integral part of ensuring it’s heritage of design and manufacturing award-winning products is maintained.
Overview
Jim Lawrence has built up a reputation for making high-quality lighting and home accessories, using traditional handcrafted techniques. The team has expanded greatly since the brand began at the kitchen table of Jim’s farmhouse, but their ethos to nurture British craftmanship remains the same.
Today Jim Lawrence employs a skilled team of 130 engineers, welders, painters, seamstresses, designers, lampshade makers and technicians, alongside a cohort of support staff in their Suffolk workshop. Jim Lawrence and Suffolk Glass individually handmake their products in a time-honoured tradition, befitting their rural East Anglian location, so it was a natural step to join forces.
Key responsibilities
- Heating, gathering and shaping molten glass using blowpipes and tools.
- Hand finish products to quality control specifications.
- Prepare and maintain the studio, furnaces and tools.
- Follow health and safety protocols in a high-heat environment.
Skills and experience
- Experienced in working with different types of glass – fine fluted, fluted, clear and colour.
- Good numeracy knowledge.
- Ability to work without supervision after the initial training period.
- Experience in a production environment.
