The Purpose
The Supporter Liaison Officer (SLO) acts as a key link between Manchester United and its fanbase, ensuring two-way communication, fan engagement, and support. A Premier League and UEFA-mandated role, the SLO is the first point of contact for all supporters, advocating for fan needs and promoting inclusive experiences across Old Trafford and Leigh Sports Village. Working within the Fan Engagement team, the SLO drives delivery of the club’s fan engagement strategy, supports official supporters’ clubs, and enhances matchday experiences. This high-profile role requires strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as primary contact for all supporters, providing visible, trusted, day-to-day support.
- Attend all men’s and women’s home matches to assist fans and coordinate with internal teams.
- Facilitate ongoing dialogue with fans via meetings, surveys, forums, and matchday interactions.
- Present fan feedback to leadership, ensuring supporter views inform club decisions.
- Build and maintain strong ties with official supporters’ clubs, fan groups, and national networks.
- Collaborate with other club and league SLOs to share best practices.
- Create and share fan communications including newsletters, updates, and matchday info.
- Manage and grow the global network of 330+ official supporters’ clubs, including queries, milestones, and expansion.
- Maintain and update the supporters’ club platform (The Tunnel) with key info and announcements.
- Provide fan-focused input on operations such as ticketing, travel, safety, and matchday experience.
- Participate in match planning and security meetings with partners including Greater Manchester Police.
- Represent the club at European away fixtures, supporting fans and gathering experience feedback.
Additional Responsibilities As Disabled Supporters Liaison Officer (DSLO)
- Act as the main point of contact for the Manchester United Disabled Supporters’ Association (MUDSA) and all disabled fans.
- Ensure compliance with the Equality Act, PLEDIS, and other relevant disability legislation, in collaboration with the Director of Internal Communications and Inclusion.
- Work with stadium operations to maintain and improve accessible facilities, including seating, parking, and amenities.
- Promote disability awareness and inclusion across the club through training and internal engagement.
- Support disabled fans on matchdays, managing a team of assistants to provide practical help and resolve any issues.
- Create and distribute accessible resources for disabled supporters, including matchday guides and service updates.
