Job Summary

The Royal Oldham Hospital Mortuary Department is a newly built and innovatively designed mortuary providing comprehensive Mortuary, Post-mortem Services to the four hospitals of the Trust, Community deaths for the Manchester North Coroner, Forensic service for the Greater Manchester Coroners and the Home Office.

The Salford Royal Hospital Mortuary Department is a newly built innovatively designed mortuary providing comprehensive Mortuary, Post-mortem Services for the Salford Royal Hospital and the Salford community deaths for the Bolton Coroner, Neurology postmortem service for the Greater Manchester Coroners and the Home Office.

Both departmens are HTA licensed; and are UKAS accredited.

Main duties of the job

You will act as a Mortuary Assistant to provide a continuous and comprehensive Mortuary Service within the Trust Mortuaries.

You will assist in the day to day provision of a high quality, cost effective Mortuary Service and will assist in the development of the service in line with service objectives.

You will be required to work under the indirect supervision of the Mortuary Manager and as a Mortuary Assistant, you are expected to work as part of a team within all specialities of the Mortuary and to rotate between sites.

You will be responsible for the delegated tasks and performing the work to the required standards. You will be cover a range of duties which includes receipt and release, dealing with bereaved relatives, facilitating viewings, general cleaning duties and stock control (this list is not exhaustive).

Qualifications

Essential

  • 3 GCSE’s in maths, English and one other. Or equivalent
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
  • Clean Driving license

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential

  • Awareness of confidentiality issues.
  • Awareness of health and safety issues.
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to adopt an empathetic approach towards patients and families
  • Experience of working in a team

Desirable

  • Experience in a Pathology/health care setting
