About the role
The Staging Engineer is responsible for accurately preparing, configuring, testing and handing over devices in line with customer project requirements, internal build standards and agreed service levels. Working within a Managed Service Provider environment, the role supports the successful delivery of device lifecycle projects by ensuring that equipment is staged, configured, identification details captured, and ready for deployment to end users or customer sites. The role reports to the Lead Staging Engineer and works closely with Project Managers, Warehouse Operations, Procurement, Logistics and customer stakeholders to fulfil project‑related staging and provisioning requests.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Stage, build and provision Apple and non‑Apple devices including Mac, iPad, iPhone, Windows laptops, desktops, tablets and associated peripherals.
- Follow agreed build standards, customer‑specific configuration guides, project instructions and technical work orders to ensure devices are prepared consistently and accurately.
- Support Apple‑first deployment processes, including device preparation for automated enrolment, mobile device management, managed applications, configuration profiles and security controls.
- Provision devices using relevant tooling such as Apple Business Manager, MDM platforms, Microsoft Intune, Jamf or equivalent endpoint management solutions, subject to customer environment and project scope.
- Perform quality checks, functional testing, asset validation and compliance checks before devices are released for deployment.
- Record build progress, serial numbers, asset tags, configuration status, exceptions and completion details accurately in service management, project tracking or asset management systems.
- Identify, troubleshoot and escalate build failures, enrolment issues, hardware faults, application deployment failures or configuration exceptions in a timely manner.
- Prepare devices for onward logistics, including packaging, labelling, bundling, documentation and handover to Warehouse dispatch teams.
- Maintain staging area standards, including safe working practices, device security, stock control, cable management and orderly workflow.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve build efficiency, reduce rework, standardise processes and improve customer experience.
Education, Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Basic IT skills with the ability to learn warehouse and stock management systems.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure, independently, and as part of a team.
- Physically capable of undertaking manual handling tasks safely.
- Experience working in a Managed Service Provider, IT reseller, deployment centre, build room or device lifecycle services environment.
- Experience of configuring Apple and non‑Apple devices.
- Aware of Jamf, Microsoft Intune and M365 technologies.
