Part time or full time, this job still gets all Fridays off! It is a permanent role focusing on Payroll management but if you are looking for full time hours you will also be involved in bookkeeping, VAT etc. It is working for an extremely friendly, modern, accountancy practice in Leeds, offering a genuine 4-day working week, Monday to Thursday, with full-time pay for 34.5 hours over 4 days and real flexibility. If you are looking for part-time hours these can be between 21 and 24 hours per week.

The role involves joining a supportive team where quality of work matters but so does having time back for life outside of work. This would ideally suit someone who has worked within an accountancy practice, particularly because of the client-communication nature and variety of the role. However, the business is also open to considering someone with strong payroll experience across multiple sectors, especially if they enjoy variety, adapting to different client needs and working in an environment where priorities change.

Key responsibilities:
  • Payroll processing for 50 to 60 firms of varying sectors (size wise ranging from 2 employees to early 20’s)
  • Mainly monthly payroll with a few clients on weekly payroll
  • CIS returns
  • HMRC deadlines and compliance
  • Setting up Workplace pension contributions

Additionally, if full time:

  • Bookkeeping
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns
  • Varied transactional accounts

You will be using a system called Capium but experience is not essential. You could transition easily from BrightPay, Sage Payroll, Xero or Dext etc. Need to be tech-confident as this firm pride themselves on this.

Experience, skill set and/or qualifications:
  • Payroll experience working within Accountancy practice is ideal but they would consider someone with the enthusiasm and ability to transition from working within alternative sectors
  • CIS experience is preferable but if you have strong payroll experience they would consider teaching this
  • Need bookkeeping experience if you are looking for full time hours
  • Good IT ability and knowledge with excellent attention to detail
  • VAT experience (working across multiple firms means they do have their quirks and the ability to transition between them is essential)
Contract Information:
  • Work Pattern: 4-day working week — Monday to Thursday
  • Location: Leeds
  • Salary: Up to £35,000 pa dependent on experience (pro rata’d for part-time hours)
  • Job type: Permanent
  • Hours: 34.5 hours per week full time and 21 to 24 part time
  • Core hours 10am–4pm, flexible hours between 7am and 7pm
