Summary of Role
You will oversee technical compliance, quality assurance, and standards conformance for fire sprinkler system servicing, maintenance, and inspection operations. This role ensures service activities comply with British Standards (for maintenance requirements, residential systems maintenance and wet & dry fire-fighting mains) along with manufacturer specifications, and insurer requirements. You will ensure system reliability and regulatory compliance throughout the operational life of installations.
What you will be doing
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with BS EN 12845, TB203, BS 9251, LPC rules, and BAFSA guidance.
- Verify completion of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspection schedules.
- Validate full-system inspections covering sprinklers, pipes, valves, pumps, and alarm devices.
- Maintain current knowledge of British Standards and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement quality control protocols, inspection checklists, and documentation standards.
- Review and assess defect reports, categorising by severity (critical/major/minor).
- Provide technical guidance on remediation methods ensuring standards compliance.
- Oversee impairment procedures when systems are taken out of operational status.
- Identify installations with deteriorating conditions and develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Escalate critical deficiencies to clients with clear risk assessments.
- Maintain comprehensive service records per BS EN 12845 Section 20 and insurance requirements.
- Oversee preparation of detailed service reports and annual inspection certifications.
- Coordinate with LPCB and certification bodies during surveillance visits.
- Maintain BAFSA Third Party Certificated Service Company registration compliance.
- Provide expert technical guidance to field service engineers on complex systems.
- Support troubleshooting for system malfunctions and component failures.
- Communicate technical findings and compliance risks clearly to clients.
- Educate clients on maintenance obligations under relevant standards.
- Track quality metrics including defect rates, repeat service calls, and compliance rates.
- Analyse service data to identify component failure trends and reliability issues.
- Conduct audit inspections of completed service work.
- Drive continuous improvement through process optimisation and industry benchmarking.
What we will need from you
- HNC/HND in Mechanical/Building Services Engineering, Fire Engineering, or equivalent (essential).
- Comprehensive experience within the fire sprinkler industry (installation, commissioning, maintenance) (essential).
- Proven experience in supervisory or quality assurance roles with technical compliance responsibility and leadership skills to guide and mentor service engineers (essential).
- BAFSA registered engineer (essential).
- Professional membership (IFE/IFSM preferred).
- CSCS certification and full UK driving licence (essential).
- Comprehensive knowledge of BS EN 12845 (Section 20), TB203, and BS 9251 (essential).
- Understanding of sprinkler system components from major manufacturers (Tyco, Viking, Victaulic, Reliable) (essential).
- Proficiency in hydraulic principles, pump systems, control equipment, and water supply arrangements (essential).
- Experience with defect diagnosis, troubleshooting, and remedial specification (essential).
- Ability to interpret as-built drawings, hydraulic calculations, and system schematics (essential).
- Current regulatory knowledge covering British Standards, insurer requirements (LPC, FM Global), and Fire Safety Order obligations (essential).
- Analytical capabilities for defect analysis, risk assessment, and trend analysis (essential).
- Clear technical report writing and ability to communicate complex issues to varied audiences (essential).
- IT proficiency with service management software, CAFM systems, and Microsoft Office (essential).
- Excellent organisational abilities managing multiple contracts simultaneously (essential).
What you can expect in return
