Overview

To lead the development, management, and innovation of technical specification content and tools that support product integration, customer engagement, and industry compliance. The Technical Specification Manager ensures the business remains a market leader by delivering accurate, tailored, and forward-thinking solutions that meet the evolving needs of both internal teams and external stakeholders, including architects, specifiers, and digital platform partners.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Specification Development:
    • Create, review, and maintain technical documentation including:
    • Project-specific specification packs
    • DWGs and 3D model files
    • Specification clauses (Uniclass/CSI/NBS Chorus)
    • Standard detail drawings and system details
    • Route to compliance documentation
  • Digital Tools & Innovation:
    • Drive the creation and evolution of digital specification tools to enhance value for both internal teams and customers.
    • Support traceability, accuracy, and usability in tools such as DWGs, BIM components, and specification packs.
    • Collaborate with marketing and technical teams to enhance digital platforms and online presence, including platform optimisation.
  • BIM & Technical Content:
    • Oversee the development, validation, and regular review of BIM components.
    • Ensure digital assets meet industry standards and provide accurate representation of product information.
  • CPD & Literature Development:
    • Lead the creation of industry-focused content such as RIBA-approved CPDs, technical brochures, product selectors, and presentations.
    • Support continuous learning through high-quality literature and webinars to build brand credibility and industry presence.
  • Industry Engagement & Events:
    • Represent the business at industry events through presentations, webinars, and forums.
    • Build and maintain relationships with platforms such as NBS, RIBA, and BIMstore to enhance visibility.
    • Secure participation in features, publications, and case studies to elevate the company\'s technical authority.
  • Platform & Market Research:
    • Lead the review and development of technical content on digital specification platforms.
    • Conduct competitor analysis and monitor market trends to refine specification strategies and maintain leadership.
    • Promote specification platform visibility via website enhancements and user experience improvements.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Engage with architects, specifiers, and consultants to deliver tailored project specifications.
    • Maintain a customer engagement calendar, ensuring occasional face-to-face interactions with strategic specifiers.
    • Collaborate with internal technical and commercial teams to ensure alignment of technical content and development of project specific specification materials.
  • Technical & Marketing Support:
    • Contribute to the development of product selectors, brochures, NPDs (new product developments), and other specification-critical tools.
    • Support cross-functional teams with technical expertise related to specification requirements and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Architectural design and Technology, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Experience in technical specification writing within the construction or architectural sector.
  • Strong proficiency in BIM tools (e.g., Autodesk Revit) and proficiency in digital specification platforms if preferable.
  • Base knowledge of UK construction regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
