About the Opportunity
Supporting an outstanding business who are hiring a Payroll Advisor to join our compliance-focused Payroll & Pensions team. This is a newly created role designed for someone who enjoys problem-solving, investigating issues, and providing excellent customer service - without being involved in day-to-day payroll processing.
If you have strong payroll or tax compliance experience, especially within the education sector, and you’re confident communicating with customers and HMRC, this role could be a great fit.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Acting as a key point of contact for payroll-related queries, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and smooth communication across all parties.
- Liaising directly with HMRC on payroll submissions, queries, and investigations.
- Reviewing payroll and tax data to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Investigating issues — particularly those linked to education-sector payrolls.
- Communicating with customers to gather information, explain findings, and provide updates.
- Working closely with internal payroll teams to ensure accuracy in records and submissions.
- Keeping up to date with relevant legislation and HMRC requirements.
- Recommending process improvements to strengthen compliance and efficiency.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in payroll, tax compliance, or audit.
- Education payroll experience highly advantageous.
- Strong understanding of HMRC processes, PAYE, and payroll legislation.
- Excellent communication skills - confident working with both clients and HMRC.
- High attention to detail with a proactive, investigative approach.
Remote working/work at home options are available for this role.
