- Payroll & Benefits Manager
- Location: Hemel Hempstead (Minimum 3 days per week in the office)
- Reporting to: Head of Financial Control
- Team: Managing an Assistant Payroll Manager, who oversees two Payroll Administrators The Role
- Leading the end-to-end UK payroll function, overseeing three payrolls (one weekly and two four-weekly) for approximately 2,000 employees.
- Taking ownership of payroll compliance, including HMRC legislation, salary sacrifice, P11Ds, reporting, audits and ensuring all payroll deadlines are met.
- Managing the UK & Ireland Concur expenses system, whilst working closely with the dedicated Reward & Benefits team on payroll-related benefits activity.
- Leading, developing and supporting the payroll team, providing hands-on assistance where required and ensuring a collaborative, high-performing function.
- Building strong relationships with HR, Finance and operational stakeholders, as well as managing external payroll providers and systems.
- Supporting payroll projects and continuous improvements, including payrolling benefits, time and attendance enhancements, process optimisation and reviewing the team structure to drive efficiency.
- Ideal Candidate
- Proven experience leading a high-volume payroll function, ideally processing payrolls for 1,000+ employees.
- Strong people management experience with the ability to develop, mentor and support an established payroll team.
- Excellent knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC compliance, pensions, salary sacrifice and payroll best practice.
- CIPP qualified with advanced Excel skills (including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables and data analysis); Microsoft Query/SQL knowledge would be advantageous.
- A confident stakeholder manager who can work effectively across HR, Finance and third-party providers, with a stable career history and a desire to build a long-term career within the business.
