Location: Reading
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the Head of HR will deliver expert guidance on people management, recruitment, and compliance matters, while ensuring all practices align with safeguarding and confidentiality standards. The role involves leading the full employee lifecycle, managing employee relations, overseeing HR operations and the HR Coordinator, and fostering an inclusive, supportive work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Leads end-to-end recruitment in line with safer recruitment practices.
- Maintains the Single Central Record, and ensures all pre-employment checks are completed.
- Coordinate complex employee relations matters.
- Support probation, absence management, and flexible working.
- Advise on performance, disciplinary, grievance, and restructuring processes.
- Oversee HR policies, ensure legal compliance, and align HR practices with school development goals.
- The role includes first-line support on pay and pensions, managing HR systems and records, and producing data reports for strategic planning.
- Manage staff leave, occupational health referrals, and well-being initiatives, while contributing to professional development, including support staff PDRs and training coordination.
Qualifications & Experience:
- CIPD Level 7 or equivalent experience with evidence of CPD.
- Experience in a regulated or school setting preferred but not essential.
- Strong employment law knowledge and application.
- Proven experience in HR operations, team management, and coaching culture.
