Leading UK Consumer Brand is seeking a Payroll Assistant to join the team on a 12 month fixed term contract. Based in their Preston office, you will support the Payroll Manager in running and executing the payroll for the 800 UK employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Payroll Data Preparation: Support the monthly payroll cycle by gathering and organising information related to new hires, departures, and variable pay such as overtime.
- Compliance & Calculations: Accurately process statutory payments including SSP, SMP, and SPP, while ensuring correct deductions for Income Tax and National Insurance.
- Pensions Support: Contribute to the administration of workplace pension schemes, including auto-enrolment, and ensure contribution data is submitted accurately and on time.
- Employee Support: Act as a primary contact for payroll-related queries, providing clear guidance on matters such as tax codes and payslip queries.
- Systems & Data Integrity: Maintain HR and finance systems through regular checks and updates to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Key Requirements
- Relevant Experience: Demonstrated experience within a UK payroll or finance environment.
- Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of payroll regulations, including RTI submissions, P45/P60 processing, and year-end activities.
- Systems Expertise: Strong working knowledge of payroll systems (e.g. Sage, Iris, Workday) alongside advanced Excel skills, including functions like VLOOKUP and pivot tables.
- Communication Skills: Professional and approachable, with the ability to manage confidential information appropriately.
- Professional Development: A CIPP qualification, or willingness to work towards one, would be advantageous.
