About the Role
Process UK payrolls on a weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, ensuring accuracy and compliance with agreed deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Manage payroll amendments and incorporate employee changes received within agreed payroll cut-off periods.
- Calculate statutory payments including Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), and other payroll-related adjustments.
- Produce payroll reports, management information, and analytical data to support client requirements.
- Prepare and distribute secure employee payslips and payroll documentation.
- Process salary payments, PAYE, and National Insurance submissions through BACS payment systems.
- Advise clients on payroll payment requirements, including employee payments and statutory obligations.
- Respond to payroll queries relating to areas such as terminations, share schemes, expenses, benefits, and pension deductions.
- Complete Real Time Information (RTI) submissions and ensure compliance with HMRC reporting requirements.
- Maintain regular communication with clients via telephone and email, providing professional payroll support and guidance.
- Liaise with HMRC on payroll-related matters, resolving queries and ensuring accurate submissions.
- Support colleagues with payroll processing activities and provide assistance during peak periods when required.
- Act as a subject matter expert, supporting team development and providing technical guidance on payroll queries.
- Assist with ad hoc payroll projects, process improvements, and additional tasks as required.
- Required Skills
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple payroll deadlines, prioritise workloads, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the confidence to liaise with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
- Previous experience processing UK payrolls from start to finish, including year-end activities, statutory reporting, and payroll submissions, ideally within a bureau setting.
- Ability to investigate and resolve payroll queries effectively, including PAYE matters and correspondence with HMRC.
- Comfortable working with payroll systems and technology, with strong IT capability and advanced Excel skills.
- Experience processing BACS payments and managing payroll-related payment requirements.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to identify issues, recommend solutions, and deliver high levels of service.
- Adaptable and open to system improvements, process changes, and new payroll technologies.
- Preferred Skills
- Experience with Pay Circle payroll software would be advantageous but is not essential.
