About the job
Job Title: Senior Payroll Administrator
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000
Location: Yeovil or Taunton
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Working: Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office
The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Payroll Administrator to join an established payroll team supporting a diverse portfolio of clients.
You’ll take ownership of a portfolio of outsourced payrolls, managing the full payroll process while acting as a key point of contact for clients. The role offers a strong balance of technical payroll processing, client relationship management and advisory responsibilities.
Public sector, NHS or healthcare payroll experience would be particularly advantageous, given the complexity of terms and conditions, pension arrangements and statutory requirements within these environments.
This would suit an experienced payroll professional who is confident working independently, enjoys client interaction and is looking to take on greater responsibility within a supportive and growing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing across an allocated portfolio of clients.
- Process payrolls across multiple frequencies, ensuring accuracy and deadlines are consistently met.
- Act as a key contact for clients, handling queries and providing guidance on payroll processes and requirements.
- Process starters, leavers, changes to employee details and periods of absence.
- Calculate and process statutory deductions, pension contributions and other payroll adjustments.
- Complete RTI submissions and ensure all HMRC reporting requirements are met.
- Prepare pension information and relevant files for submission to payroll and pension providers.
- Review payroll input and supporting documentation, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Process BACS payments and ensure payroll records are complete and accurate.
- Produce payroll reports and maintain appropriate payroll documentation.
- Keep up to date with UK payroll legislation and communicate relevant changes to clients.
- Support colleagues with technical payroll queries and contribute to maintaining high standards across the wider team.
- Help develop strong client service practices and identify opportunities to improve payroll processes.
About You
- Strong experience within an outsourced payroll, payroll bureau or accountancy practice environment.
- Proven experience processing multiple payrolls and pay frequencies.
- Good knowledge of UK payroll legislation, PAYE, RTI, statutory payments, pensions and auto-enrolment.
- NHS, healthcare or public sector payroll experience highly advantageous.
- Confident managing client relationships and dealing with payroll queries.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong numerical and organisational skills.
- Comfortable working independently and managing multiple deadlines.
- Strong IT skills and experience using payroll systems.
- IRIS Payroll Professional, PayCircle and/or Xero experience advantageous.
- Proactive, professional and solutions-focused approach.
