We are recruiting for a Assistant Payroll Manager to join a leading professional services organisation.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong technical payroll knowledge, leadership experience and a passion for delivering an exceptional service to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support the day-to-day operations of the payroll team, ensuring all deadlines and service standards are met.
- Process and oversee a portfolio of payrolls, including more complex client requirements.
- Delegate and review work, providing clear direction, constructive feedback and ongoing support to team members.
- Act as a technical point of escalation for complex payroll queries and challenges.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation and ensure changes are reflected in processes and procedures.
- Identify, develop and deliver technical and procedural training for the team.
- Support and lead payroll-related projects and specialist technical initiatives.
- Maintain accurate client process documentation and ensure high standards of process governance.
- Work closely with payroll software providers to resolve system issues and support process improvements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues and external stakeholders.
About You
- Previous experience in a senior payroll or leadership position.
- Experience working in a bureau and knowledge of STAR (Essential).
- Strong end-to-end UK payroll knowledge and experience managing complex payroll requirements.
- Experience leading and supporting payroll team.
- Excellent knowledge of payroll legislation and a commitment to keeping up to date with technical changes.
- Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working across multiple payrolls and managing competing deadlines.
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to manage client expectations effectively.
- Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
