The Role

This role is responsible for delivering innovative engineering design solutions and providing through-life engineering support across the JFD product range, including equipment and systems that support submarine rescue operations.

The successful candidate will work on a varied portfolio of projects, from developing new products to meet customer and business requirements, to supporting in-service equipment upgrades and modifications in the field, helping to ensure the continued effectiveness of critical rescue capabilities.

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented engineer with excellent communication and organisational skills, who can work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

You will take ownership of projects from concept through to completion, producing accurate, high-quality documentation and adapting to changing priorities and customer needs.

With a methodical approach and a commitment to delivering practical, cost-effective solutions, you will thrive in a fast-paced environment where meeting deadlines, budgets and performance expectations is key to success, while contributing to systems that play a vital role in supporting submarine rescue teams worldwide.

What you’ll be doing

  • Provide engineering design input for new products and technical support for the existing product range, assessing technical queries and developing effective engineering solutions.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, including Sales, Procurement and Production, to ensure the most appropriate technical solutions are delivered.
  • Source suitable components and materials, creating and maintaining part numbers and bills of materials as required.
  • Produce and review engineering documentation, including specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification and technical reports, ensuring compliance with company processes, engineering best practice, and relevant industry standards.
  • Check electrical drawings and associated documentation, taking responsibility as the technical checker to ensure accuracy, quality and compliance.
  • Deliver engineering solutions that meet project timescales and budget requirements while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Undertake site visits to JFD locations, customer sites and operational assets as required to support project delivery and business objectives.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven electrical and electronics design skills.
  • Skilled in generating design calculations.
  • Competent in the use of engineering design software tools / CAD packages.
  • Knowledge of design standards.
  • Previous product design experience would be advantageous, particularly DC systems.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management system for generating and storage of engineering packages.
  • Electrical and Electronics engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience working to marine, defence standards and class society rules (mainly LR and DNV).
  • Early finish on Fridays
