Requirements
- Experience writing and maintaining large-scale, robust production software in a fast-changing environment with rapid release cycles.
- Expertise in Node.js and its associated frameworks and ecosystem.
- Extensive experience with Amazon Web Services, including designing, deploying, and maintaining cloud-native applications using the Serverless Framework, such as AWS Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB.
- Competence in database design and optimization, with expertise in relational databases using Amazon RDS such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Expertise with one or more mainstream development and deployment toolchains, including IDEs, source control systems, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Expertise in web architecture and key technologies, including HTTP, DNS, and distributed microservices design.
- Expertise in test-driven development, broader testing, and QA concerns.
- Expertise in developing for operational and non-functional concerns, including monitoring integration, performance testing, scale, availability, resilience, and security considerations.
- Experience working on projects and within professional software development processes, including Agile.
- Competence in translating product requirements into technical solutions.
- Experience using software design patterns effectively.
- Effective leadership and collaboration inside and beyond the team, with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders effectively.
- Ability to take responsibility for delivering work to completion across the team.

Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of software that meets complex product and business needs, primarily building scalable backends with Node.js and the Serverless Framework.
- Review and provide constructive feedback on others' code to ensure best practices in modern cloud-native development.
- Deliver work to successful completion across the immediate team.
- Write appropriate tests using automated test-driven techniques to ensure code quality and coverage.
- Integrate software with monitoring, logging, and support tools within the AWS ecosystem, such as CloudWatch and X-Ray.
- Ensure software works optimally and securely in its operating environment, managing cloud deployments and infrastructure as code.
- Write, review, and take responsibility for technical documentation.
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of issues throughout the product life cycle, including out-of-hours support for incident resolution.
- Participate in and lead the team's agile planning and delivery process as required.
- Help improve the team's software development methodologies, including pairing, code and documentation reviews, and continuous delivery pipelines.
- Work with project, product, and technical leads to design software and create implementable specifications and tasks at feature and component level.
- Work with third-party providers where necessary, offering direction, support, and documentation.
- Mentor and coach more junior staff, providing technical leadership and direction to colleagues.
- Provide line management for 1 to 2 software engineers if appropriate.
- Keep informed of existing and new technologies and introduce them where appropriate to enhance our operational technology stack.
