Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Full‑time role, 44.5 hours per week, with no weekend work.
About the Role
We are looking for a Trainee Tool Hire Technician to join our busy branch team. This is a hands‑on workshop role supporting the servicing, maintenance, and preparation of a wide range of small plant and hire equipment, including electrically powered tools as well as petrol and diesel machinery. This position would suit someone with a mechanical or engineering background who is looking to develop their skills in the plant and tool hire industry. You do not need previous tool hire experience. We welcome applications from candidates with experience in automotive, mechanical engineering, plant, HGV, agricultural, or other hands‑on mechanical roles. Full training will be provided on our equipment, systems, and processes to help you build your knowledge and progress in the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Service, maintain, and repair small plant and tool hire equipment
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults
- Work on petrol and diesel engines as well as electrically powered tools
- Complete routine safety checks and inspections
- Prepare equipment to a high standard for hire
- Carry out planned maintenance and breakdown repairs
- Accurately complete job cards and maintenance records
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop
- Support branch colleagues as part of a wider team

- Previous experience in a mechanical, electrical, or engineering role

- Comfortable working with electrical systems and/or petrol & diesel engines
- A proactive, reliable, and safety‑focused approach
- Willingness to learn new equipment and processes
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Desirable (but Not Essential)
- Tool hire, plant, automotive, HGV, or agricultural experience
- PAT testing knowledge
- Relevant mechanical or electrical qualifications
- C1 License
