Job Purpose
To drive profitable growth by developing and managing strong, long-term relationships with regional housebuilders.
Key Accountabilities
- Build trusted, long-term relationships with key decision-makers at regional housebuilders, including owners, directors, and land/project/site managers and develop detailed knowledge of each customer's structure, funding approach, site pipeline, and decision-making process to offer relevant solutions.
- Identify and win new accounts within the target segments using a consultative and proactive sales approach.
- Own the full customer lifecycle—from prospecting and onboarding through to negotiation, delivery support, and ongoing service.
- Consistently meet or exceed agreed revenue, margin, and growth targets across assigned territory and customer base.
- Maximise customer value by deepening engagement, increasing share of wallet, and identifying upsell/cross‐sell opportunities.
- Recommend appropriate products and alternatives based on build stage, budget, and specification, working closely with internal teams as needed—particularly Project Estimator.
- Proactively liaise with key suppliers to secure competitive pricing, product availability, and tailored support for customer projects.
- Coordinate with internal departments (branches, sales offices/centres, logistics, credit control & category) to ensure smooth delivery and a high level of service.
- Manage territory effectively using CRM tools, maintaining accurate records of customer interactions, sales activity, and pipeline status.
- Monitor competitor activity, customer trends, and market developments, feeding insights back into the business to inform strategy and support product or service innovation.
Personal Specification / Experience Required
- Commercially astute and customer‐obsessed: Build long‐term, trust‐based relationships with decision‐makers and always look for ways to add value beyond the sale.
- Understands the regional housebuilder market—the nuances, how sites are acquired, funded and built.
- Has a proven B2B track record—successfully managed and grown significant accounts in construction, building materials, or a related industry from first contact to long‐term partnerships.
- Drives change and builds capability: Bringing initiative, insight, and hands‐on support to not only grow the customer base but to help shape how we operate, embedding the tools, processes, and mindset across the business to deliver for this sector long‐term.
- Speaks the language of builders and suppliers: Credibility on‐site and in the boardroom. You understand products, materials, value‐engineered solutions, and how to deliver customer needs.
- Owns the full customer journey: From prospecting and onboarding to pricing, fulfilment, and problem resolution—be hands‐on and accountable every step of the way.
- Collaborates internally and externally: Work closely with branches, support teams, credit control and suppliers to deliver a seamless customer experience.
- Leverages supplier relationships: Know how to get the best from manufacturers and suppliers to unlock better pricing, support, and product access.
- Thrives in an autonomous, field‐based role: Ability to manage your region, your time, and your results.
