Schoolreaders is a national literacy charity. We find and match volunteers to read with children in schools across the country. Volunteers read with children on a 1:1 basis to help improve reading skills and to inspire a love of reading and books. Our service to schools is totally free.

Responsibilities

  • Read with a child on a 1:1 basis to help improve their reading skills and enjoyment of reading.
  • Commit to at least one hour per week for a full year during term time (holidays may be taken).
  • Undertake an Enhanced DBS check, organised and paid for by the school.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Good standard of written and spoken English.
  • No specific qualifications required.
  • No upper age limit for volunteers, provided you are over 18.

Training and support

Volunteers will receive the necessary DBS process and any training needed to support their role. Details about additional training are provided by Schoolreaders and the partnering schools.
