Do you love cooking and saving food waste? Would you like to join a team of volunteers to cook delicious and nutritious meals for the local community? Our amazing volunteer cooks support FEAST by transforming surplus food into delicious and nutritious meals for the local community.
As a volunteer cook, you will be helping with basic cooking tasks in the kitchen, such as chopping, peeling and other food preparation. No experience is needed as you’ll learn lots along the way, but we encourage collaboration and creativity in the kitchen! Since we don't know what we will be cooking until the day, you will work together to design your own menu.
What additional skills or experience you should have:
- In-Person
- Age limit: Volunteers aged 18 or over
- Hours per session: Between 2 and 4 hours
- Availability: Flexible
We are happy to be flexible on location and/or times if required.
FEAST started in 2015 as a weekly community meal at a hostel for homeless people, using surplus food that would otherwise be thrown away. Each meal is a collaboration whereby volunteers and people experiencing food insecurity cook and dine together as equals.
We support people with 7-day service in multiple hostels for homeless people, and weekly services in community centres, as well as offering communal lunch & dining sessions for anyone struggling with food poverty.
Are you passionate about using your skills to help your community? Can you help us by cooking hot meals for people in need once or twice a month? Our Cooking Volunteers are an essential part of our chain of help, cooking the food we receive to be delivered to the people in need. You don’t need to be a professional cook to join us, all cooking skills and levels are welcome! As we work with surplus food, creativity is 100% needed as we don’t know what food will be available until the day.
We are currently cooking from kitchens in Finchley, Camden, Kilburn, Kings Cross, and Angel. There are many ways of helping us out and ensuring we can reach more individuals: joining the cooking team, taking pictures for our website, designing a poster, taking on a leadership - facilitating role, collecting food etc. Let us know what your skills are and we will find you the role that suits you best!
We can't wait to hear from you and have you as part of our Feast family!
