Jami is seeking a dedicated Compeer Befriending Officer to join our in-house befriending programme, Compeer. This programme aims to improve the quality of life, self-esteem, and resilience of individuals living with mental ill health through one-on-one matches with trained and well-supported Compeer volunteers. Our goal is to increase social connections and reduce loneliness and isolation.

As a Compeer Befriending Officer, you will facilitate and support the befriending programme by maintaining regular check-ins and providing support to a high number of matched Compeer pairs. Interactions will take place over the phone, via Zoom, or email. Your role is crucial in creating and maintaining befriending relationships, requiring excellent organisational skills, time management, and the ability to reflect and problem solve.

This is a Fixed Term position for 3 months with a possible extension. This post is working Monday to Friday for 36.25 hours per week.

What you will be doing:

  • Supporting a caseload of matched Compeer befriending pairs.
  • Processing volunteer reports.
  • Maintaining accurate records on our client record system.
  • Assisting Compeer pairs in planning and organizing wellbeing and practical activities.
  • Attending allocation meetings to discuss and process new referrals.
  • Interviewing and delivering training for new Compeer volunteers.
  • Creating new matches between clients and volunteers.
  • Conducting assessments and making referrals as appropriate.
  • Building positive relationships with Jami service users, volunteers, and colleagues.
  • Raising safeguarding and welfare concerns.
  • Creating case studies when needed.
  • Proactively recruiting Compeer volunteers through community engagement and outreach.

What you will need:

  • Secondary School Education and/or equivalent experience in social care, social work, community work, or counselling.
  • Experience in a service delivery setting.
  • Experience supporting volunteers.
  • Experience in recruitment, this could either be volunteer or paid recruitment.
  • Experience in the mental health or charity sector in a supportive capacity with vulnerable people, children, and young adults.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of the Jewish community.
  • People management skills.
  • Excellent IT, organisational and administration skills.
  • Ability to manage challenging situations.
  • Ability to engage and support people with mental health.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and an efficient and productive approach.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
