Ellipse has established itself as a market leader in the collection, analysis, and dissemination of data across various sports. We are now seeking an ambitious and personable Lead Editorial Analyst to join our horse racing team. Working in close partnership with Racecourse Media Group (RMG), you will be the driving force behind the adoption and engagement of RaceiQ metrics. This is a unique opportunity for a racing expert to shape how fans, media, and industry professionals consume data. You will act as the bridge between complex data science and mainstream broadcast storytelling, reporting directly to the Managing Director of Racing.
Responsibilities
- Public Ambassadorship & Brand Advocacy: Act as the credible, public face of RaceiQ across TV, podcasts, and industry events. Champion the RaceiQ brand to increase product awareness and understanding across the sport. Educate a wide range of stakeholders, from casual fans to ‘super-user’ professionals, on how to interpret and value new analytics.
- Broadcast & Editorial Production:
- Live Support: Provide real-time analyst support to ITV and Racing TV production teams, feeding relevant data points and insights to commentators and producers during live broadcasts.
- Content Creation: Produce engaging editorial output, including weekly race previews, summaries, festival ‘data packs’ and daily tips.
- Social Media: Support the coverage via RaceiQ’s social media platforms, creating high-impact content that drives digital engagement.
- Strategy: In conjunction with RMG, lead the development and delivery of the RaceiQ editorial calendar.
- Stakeholder & Account Management:
- Client Relations: Manage client relationships, ensuring all stakeholders and data users are fully supported.
- Super-User Engagement: Build relationships with key industry talent and heavy users of the data, providing bespoke support and gathering feedback for future improvements.
- Media Liaison: Manage external media contacts and support the Ellipse and RMG marketing teams in showcasing RaceiQ’s capabilities.
- Product Development & Advanced Analysis:
- Metric Development: Collaborate with internal data scientists to design and test the next generation of revolutionary racing metrics.
- Deep-Dive Research: Conduct bespoke analysis into specific racing trends (e.g. track bias, running styles, or jump indices) to create exclusive content.
- Knowledge Hub: Maintain a deep understanding of the methodology behind RaceiQ metrics, ensuring all data is used with the correct context and accuracy.
Requirements
- Racing Expertise: A profound passion for horse racing and a comprehensive knowledge of the sport’s nuances.
- Analytical Mindset: Proven ability to interpret complex data and translate it into compelling narratives.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal skills, with the confidence to appear on camera and interface with high-profile stakeholders.
- Content Experience: Experience in creating engaging social media content and/or editorial write-ups.
- Interpersonal Skills: The ability to build rapport quickly with TV producers, commentators, and internal technical teams.
- Desirable: Previous media experience and/or working directly with horse racing data.
Location: A hybrid split between Ellipse’s London office, RMG production offices, and on‑course at race meetings. Note: This role requires regular weekend work (approximately 3 out of 4 Saturdays).
