Salary: Starting at Grade 7 point 1 (National Spine Point 29 - currently £39,424 per annum). Free meals in College, USS pension, research allowance of £1,000 per annum, and a teaching book allowance of £250 per annum are also offered.
Jesus College Oxford invites applications for a full-time stipendiary Career Development Fellowship in Classics and Philosophy, tenable for a fixed term of three years from 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter; this post is non-renewable. The CDF is intended for an early-career scholar who wishes to further their experience of undergraduate teaching in Classics and Philosophy alongside their postdoctoral research.
The successful candidate will have:
- a good first degree in Classics or Philosophy or an equivalent qualification;
- a doctorate in Classics or Philosophy (awarded since 1 October 2021), or close to completion (submission expected by 1 October 2026);
- a coherent proposed research programme for the duration of the Fellowship, of a standard which will contribute to and enhance the national and international profile of the field in the University;
- a record of publications and other output demonstrating research expertise in the field, appropriate to the career stage of the applicant;
- experience of teaching at the undergraduate level;
- the ability to communicate their subject clearly;
- the ability to demonstrate the suitability of Oxford for carrying out the proposed research.
The duties will be to:
- undertake original and high quality research in the field of Classics or Philosophy;
- organise and deliver the teaching of College undergraduates;
- set and mark internal College examinations;
- act as Graduate Advisor to postgraduates;
- assist with the administration of Classics at the College.
