The role of the Water Quality Sampler is crucial in establishing and maintaining high quality, safe, reliable and affordable water to our customers. This position involves collecting water samples from a range of locations, including reservoirs, treatment works, supply zones, and customer properties, to support ongoing quality monitoring and analysis. The role also includes handling and processing laboratory samples, carrying out basic laboratory duties such as cleaning equipment and preparing media, and maintaining accurate data records and reports through computer systems. In addition, the Water Quality Sampler responds to customer water quality concerns, ensures a safe and hygienic working environment in line with company procedures, and contributes to wider business objectives through collaboration and adherence to company values. Other reasonable duties may be required as part of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take samples for analysis from water sources, reservoirs, treatment works, supply zone(s), consumer premises and all other designated sampling points.
  • Receiving, sorting, transporting, and storing laboratory specimens/samples.
  • Attend customer properties to take water quality samples and deal with water quality customer complaints.
  • Carry out basic duties in the laboratory including the cleaning of sample and analytical equipment as directed.
  • Preparation of media as required.
  • Input and maintain statistical and analytical data on the computer systems producing reports and databases, as requested.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with the Company’s Safe Working Procedures and Code of Practice for Hygiene.
  • To actively partake in inter-departmental and wider company group initiatives aimed at supporting strategic business objectives.
  • To understand and live the Company Values, We Care, We Are Ambitious, We Work Together, being able to demonstrate alignment to them as part of the performance review process.
  • Carry out other duties as may reasonably be required.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Good IT knowledge with experience in, or a desire to, learn LIMS. Knowledge of Microsoft products is essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A team player who can work and contribute to the success of the Company.
  • A self-motivated individual with a methodical and organised approach to work.
  • Demonstrates working effectively and safely with minimal supervision to a high standard.
  • A positive outlook and attitude.
  • A clean Jersey driving licence.

Benefits

  • Pension – Membership of the defined contribution scheme. Jersey Water pays 5% up to 5 years’ service and then 10%, employees pay 5%. A matching scheme is available whereby Jersey Water matches additional voluntary contributions up to a maximum of 5%.
