As a Trainee Metering Engineer, you will embark on a comprehensive training program designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in metering engineering.

You will work closely with our experienced engineers, gaining hands‑on experience in metering equipment installation, maintenance, and data analysis.

This role is ideal for recent graduates or individuals looking to transition into the metering engineering field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Metering Department in maintaining an efficient and customer driven experience ensuring the company metering activities are implemented to the highest accuracy and levels of professionalism.
  • Work with the team to ensure that faults and revenue protection incidents are repaired, managed promptly and supplies restored.
  • Collaborate with the Metering Engineer / team leader to develop, specify, and implement workload and workflow optimization projects.
  • Work with the Metering Department and other internal and external experts to research, apply, and develop knowledge that supports current and future business and engineering needs.
  • Develop and maintain an appropriate professional relationship with relevant networks of support and personal development (CPD).
  • Engage with collaborative working on Metering projects for the Company, supporting the direction for the Metering team and liaising with the Senior Metering Engineer to ensure that the Projects meet the standards set out in the project specification and policies.
  • Support with Supervision and accounting for appointed Contractors, ensuring compliance to JE standards and adherence to contract via comprehensive monitoring and reporting systems.
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining Metering Department procedures, requirements, and specifications, ensuring they are clear and followed.
  • Ensure appropriate compliance with HS&E, Company procedures, Distribution Safety Rules, Generation Safety Rules and Industry best practice, ensuring that appropriate auditable records are kept.
  • Drive the team to provide outstanding customer service at all times.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Potential to develop Leadership and Management skills.
  • Practical experience of utility principles and practices.
  • Strong Computer Networking, data/database management, and programming logic skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Experienced operative in data/comms environment.
  • Graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering/HNC or equivalent.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent.
  • SSAC (DSR).
  • LVSW (DSR).
  • Clean driving licence.

Desirable qualifications

  • Database / programming fundamentals.
  • LOAI (DSR).
  • Examining Officer up to LVSW.
