We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Technician to join our Maintenance team at Wargrave Sewage Treatment Works (STW). As the successful candidate, your role will be to ensure that all equipment at our waste treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. To assist in keeping such a site running.
This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water\’s environmental impact, and you will be actively helping to reduce pollution from our sites.
What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical Technician
- Investigate plant failures and perform repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and performing repairs during incidents.
- You will be expected to provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
- Examples of equipment that you will be working on include motors, gearboxes, screw /chain conveyors & centrifuges, various pumps, and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
- Completing statutory checks as required.
- Always working safely and complying with all Health and Safety guidance and procedures.
Base Location: Wargrave – RG10 8DJ
Working Pattern 38 Hours Monday- Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 pm plus standby and overtime opportunities, increasing earnings by a potential £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.
All PPE, tools, van and fuel card are provided.
What you should bring to the role
- You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering.
- A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or escalating if required.
- An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to Internal and External staff and contractors.
- Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and standards.
- Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
- Team player who can work in many different teams showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
- IT literate.
- Full UK driving licence
