Description
The Infrastructure and Digital Mapping Technician is responsible for ensuring the organisation's infrastructure, asset, and spatial information is accurate, accessible, and of high quality. They achieve this through ArcGIS and Esri software.
The role supports the management of digital records, data governance, mapping standards and business processes through the use of ArcGIS, Esri tools, Utility Network, CAD systems and related tech. The postholder will play a significant role in driving projects passionate about advancing digital modernisation, including Digital Twin development, system integration, automation and process improvement.
Working closely with Engineering, Operations, Planning, Construction, and Customer teams, the successful candidate will help ensure infrastructure information is reliable and accessible. They will also ensure it is fit for operational, regulatory, and strategic decision making.
Key Responsibilities
Asset and Infrastructure Data Management
- Maintain accurate records of infrastructure assets, premises, services and network information within ArcGIS and related business systems.
- Ensure spatial information and asset-related records are accurate, complete, consistent and maintained to agreed standards.
- Support the ongoing migration, improvement and maintenance of Utility Network and physical asset data management systems.
Data Quality and Governance
- Validate, audit and improve data related to infrastructure and assets, identifying and resolving missing, duplicate or inconsistent information.
- Assist in developing guidelines for coordinating geospatial and engineering information.
Mapping and Technical Support
- Respond to cable record and mapping requests from customers, contractors and internal team members.
- Support engineers and project teams with mapping, drawing, records and system-related enquiries.
- Assist with the maintenance of CAD drawings, schematics, digital maps and user documentation as required.
- Provide technical support for GIS, geospatial and infrastructure information system.
Field Survey and Verification
- Undertake site visits and field surveys when required to gather, verify and update infrastructure information.
- Use GPS, and data gathering devices to support accurate mapping and asset records.
- Verify infrastructure data against site observations and as-built information.
Digital Transformation and Ongoing Improvement
- Support the delivery of Digital Twin, business system integration and wider digital transformation initiatives.
- Assist in testing and implementing new digital tools, processes and technologies.
- Support integration between GIS, asset management, operational and business systems.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Essential
- Experience working with GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS, Esri products or similar), mapping, asset information or technical record systems.
- Solid attention to detail with a commitment to data accuracy and quality.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience handling and maintaining digital records and data sets.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a collaborative team environment.
- Experience in data cleansing, validation, analysis, reporting and visualisation.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Esri Utility Network models and migration projects.
- Knowledge of asset management, records management or Enterprise Asset Management systems.
- Skills in automation, scripting or coding using tools such as Python, SQL, Arcade, VBA or Power Automate.
- Knowledge of digital transformation technologies, including Digital Twins, connected assets and 3D modelling.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Relevant experience in GIS, mapping, engineering support, infrastructure records, asset management, or a comparable technical field.
Desirable
- Qualification in GIS, Geography, Engineering, Asset Management, Information Management or an equivalent area.
- ArcGIS, Esri, Utility Network, or other recognised GIS certifications.
- Experience working within a utility or regulated infrastructure environment.
