Environmental Sustainability Specialist – Flexible location – Up to £61,000

About the role:
Are you passionate about driving environmental and sustainability initiatives that deliver tangible benefits for businesses, communities, and the planet? National Gas is seeking an Environmental Sustainability Specialist to join our team and play a key role in ensuring our environmental and sustainability objectives are met.

In this role, you\’ll develop and support the delivery of our Environmental Action Plan in the current and future RIIO price controls including producing our Annual Environment Report, while providing specialist advice and guidance to embed environmental best practice into our operations. You’ll support on designing and implementing metrics, plans, and tools for initiatives including Circular Economy and Nature based solutions, as well as quantifying risks and opportunities tied to environmental performance.

You’ll also play a pivotal role in engaging with stakeholders across the business and externally, championing the value of environmental sustainability and helping to drive meaningful change. With a focus on delivering real benefits to National Gas, the environment, and local communities, you’ll develop and deliver impactful sustainability training and communications, empowering our teams to embrace sustainable practices.

As part of our hybrid working approach, this role offers a mix of office and home working. Ideally you\’ll be based near our head office in Warwick, but it\’s not essential, as you\’ll need to be able to travel to the Warwick office and the office nearest your base location approx. 2-3 times a week. There will also be ad-hoc travel to other sites across the UK when required.

What we\’re looking for:
Essential –
Degree (or equivalent) in an environment/sustainability discipline
Knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and Circular Economy topics and applications
Experience of environmental management systems and sustainability legislation
Broad appreciation of business environmental sustainability objectives
Awareness of relevant nascent technologies and concepts
Full UK car driving licence

Desirable –
Professional membership of a relevant professional body e.g. IEMA, CIEEM, CIWEM
Understanding of other environment and sustainability reporting standards (e.g. TNFD, International Sustainability Standards Board S1 and S2)
