This role is pivotal to the evolution of this Global World Championship. We are looking for a Senior Event Manager as we seek to implement, improve and lead the planning and delivery of allocated race events across the championship calendar. This is a hands-on, creative delivery role for someone who can own the plan, manage the detail and help bring complex international events together on site. You will shape this evolving role and contribute to a lasting legacy of the championship.
The right person will understand both how an event is delivered and how it should feel for guests, fans, partners and teams. They need to be strong on planning, suppliers, budgets, timelines and stakeholder management, while also having a clear eye for event presentation, guest flow and premium finish. They must be comfortable moving between formal stakeholder meetings, supplier calls, budget reviews and practical site delivery. This role needs someone who can lead confidently, make clear decisions under pressure and get hands-on when required, whether that means solving a live issue, reworking a plan, moving a barrier or helping get a key area ready before doors open.
This role would suit someone from an event agency, live events, large-scale temporary venues or sporting event production background who wants to take ownership of complex race events within a growing international championship.
Key Responsibilities- Event Planning and Delivery
- Lead allocated race events from planning through to live delivery, acting as the central point for departments, suppliers and stakeholders.
- Build and manage the core event plan, including critical paths, project trackers, site schedules, risks, decisions and key actions.
- Manage multi-million-pound event budgets, including event-specific spend, local supplier costs, purchase requests and operational requirements.
- Coordinate the delivery of temporary event sites, including paddock areas, fan zones, sponsor areas, guest routes, operational spaces and site services.
- Plan and deliver fan zones, sponsor areas, branding, signage, wayfinding, guest flow and wider event presentation, working closely with Marketing, Commercial and Hospitality.
- Ensure event risk, crisis management, safety, medical and security planning is integrated into the wider delivery plan.
- Supplier Management
- Coordinate global suppliers and championship functions, including broadcast, timing, logistics, race operations, power, technology and appointed event agencies.
- Act as the central contact for supplier access, site requirements, schedules, local support needs and issue resolution.
- Manage selected supplier categories across the season, including branding, overlay, production, fan zone infrastructure, hospitality support, F&B, security, medical, safety and other event delivery services.
- Support procurement processes, including supplier briefs, RFPs, scopes of work, quotation reviews and cost comparisons.
- Venue, Stakeholder and Water Operations
- Take day-to-day ownership of operational coordination with venues, promoters, local authorities and delivery partners once events move into detailed planning.
- Represent the championship in meetings, leading delivery-focused discussions and escalating sensitive or strategic matters where required.
- Work closely with the Water Operations Manager and Sporting Director to ensure water-based and sporting requirements are understood and reflected in the wider event plan.
- Support the coordination of permits, permissions, harbour authority engagement, marine permits, racecourse requirements and the interface between land-side and water-side activity.
- Ensure venue planning, paddock operations, guest areas, broadcast requirements, safety plans and water operations are joined up so the event can be delivered safely and effectively.
- Team Leadership and Cross Department Working
- Line manages the Junior Event Manager, providing clear direction, day-to-day support, development planning, feedback and project accountability.
- Act as a senior delivery lead within the Events team, provide confident direction through complex planning and delivery periods.
- Create a clear flow of information across departments, ensuring decisions, risks, actions and changes are communicated clearly and followed through.
- Support a professional, collaborative and accountable team culture, setting high standards for planning, communication and site delivery.
- Significant experience in live events, event agency delivery, international sport or large-scale temporary venue production, likely gained over 8+ years in senior event delivery roles.
- Strong project manager with experience leading complex events from planning through to live delivery and post-event review.
- Calm, decisive and practical under pressure, with the confidence to make clear decisions on site without needing constant direction.
- Strong communicator who can read the room, manage suppliers firmly but fairly, and keep multiple teams moving in the same direction. Able to think big picture while staying close to the detail, delegating effectively while retaining ownership of the overall plan.
- Experience in maritime, sailing, motorsport, international sport or broadcast-led events would be advantageous.
- IOSH, NEBOSH, PRINCE2, APM or similar safety or project management qualifications would be advantageous.
