Due to continued success, Basil Fry (part of the Jensten Group) is excited to announce a brand-new opportunity for an enthusiastic Assistant Underwriter to join our friendly and dedicated Underwriting team. This is a fantastic chance to develop your underwriting expertise within a market-leading specialist insurance provider.
As an Assistant Underwriter, you’ll provide vital support to the Schemes Underwriter and Schemes Underwriting Manager. Working in a team of 3, and a wider office of 45, you will be based in our Modern Leatherhead site, which is in easy walking distance from the station and bus routes. This is an office-based role, working Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:15 pm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting with negotiations and agreeing renewals and new business within delegated authority.
- Preparing and issuing quotations, policy documentation, endorsements, and associated paperwork.
- Liaising with brokers and internal teams to gather information and ensure timely delivery of documentation.
- Maintaining accurate records through data entry, system updates, and reporting.
- Supporting credit control processes and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Effectively manage personal workload, including inboxes, diaries, and underwriting files.
- Contributing to risk assessment and pricing activities as expertise develops.
About You
To join us as an Assistant Underwriter, you’ll bring a strong insurance background and a genuine passion for developing your expertise in underwriting. You’ll be proactive, detail-oriented, and confident in building relationships with brokers and internal teams.
What we’re looking for:
- Proven experience in insurance - marine / goods in transit/storage knowledge is advantageous but not essential.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with brokers and internal teams.
- Ability to work effectively in an office-based environment (Leatherhead location).
