Our client is a premium food manufacturer, founded in 1971, that is passionate about the quality of its produce and proud of its status of crafting the tasting food in Britain, which you’ll find in supermarkets, including Aldi and Tesco. Now part of one of the largest food companies in Europe, our client has a brand-new role and is seeking a Head of Safety, Health & Environment, based in Harlow, Essex.

We are now looking for a Head of SHE (Safety, Health and Environment), to join the team. They are looking for a talented and experienced individual who will develop and lead their safety, health and environment strategy, teams and plans, to ensure best-in-class processes and policies. You will also play a key role in developing a culture of compliance and operational ownership.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Using established NEBOSH/IOSH plan-do-check-act principles to drive safety improvements and leadership on site
- Ensuring the site Safety Management System is up to date and relevant
- Managing risk appropriately and in accordance with the Group SHE standards
- Ensuring all significant and major SHE risks on site are quantified, managed and validated
- Monitoring departmental KPIs and challenging improvement, when required, to ensure targets are achieved and improved upon
- Completing regular health, safety and environmental audits of the site, evaluating practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
- Preparing and scheduling training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety and other relevant topics
- Ensuring inspections and servicing of plant, equipment and machinery are completed in compliance with relevant legislation, including PUWER assessments
- Maintaining records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required, and monitoring all other environmental risks to colleagues and the local community.
Skills and experience required:
- NEBOSH diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field is essential
- Proven experience as a Head of SHE or similar role
- Comprehensive understanding of health, safety and environmental guidelines and relevant legislation
- Excellent leadership and management skills
- Ability to produce reports and develop relevant policies
- Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
