We are proud to be recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team within a dynamic and fast-paced production environment. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic and hands-on leader to drive engineering excellence and continuous improvement across site operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering function to provide efficient, cost-effective support across production and plant infrastructure.
  • Manage the departmental budget with a focus on cost efficiency, value creation, and strategic resource planning.
  • Contribute to long-term planning in areas such as labour strategy, energy consumption, and capital equipment upgrades.
  • Champion development opportunities for the engineering team, conducting regular performance reviews and providing technical mentorship.
  • Take ownership of full lifecycle CAPEX and infrastructure project delivery-ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to embed a strong culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Partner closely with Production and Shift Managers to plan, coordinate, and align engineering activities with operational goals.
  • Maintain strong lines of communication between maintenance and production to support seamless operations.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules and internal maintenance systems to maximise equipment uptime.
  • Drive site-wide energy optimisation initiatives to improve efficiency and sustainability.
  • Support the negotiation and management of external service contracts, ensuring value for money and service quality.
  • Ensure full compliance with all relevant Health & Safety, environmental, and insurance legislation (UK/EU standards).
  • Conduct and manage risk assessments, implement control measures, and champion safety for all staff and contractors on-site.
  • Design and deliver hands-on equipment maintenance training for production teams to promote cross-functional capability.

Person Specification:

  • Degree or HND in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Extensive maintenance experience within a highly automated, batch production, or FMCG environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and innovation abilities.
  • Proven track record in delivering capital investment projects.
  • Strategic mindset with strong planning and execution capabilities.
  • Solid budgeting and resource management expertise.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
