The Field Technician will work in a Field Team Group reporting to the region’s Field Operations Manager. The role will predominantly support the Field Engineers, being involved with installation and maintenance of new and existing projects (temporary and permanent) and will be responsible for providing support as required to the Field Team. The role will consist of working on customer highway sites and will require some UK wide travel. While the hours defined for this role will be largely 9 – 5:30pm, our clients’ needs don’t always fit neatly inside this window and the safest conditions to work roadside may be outside of these working hours. As such, candidates may be required to stay away occasionally and should be prepared to work unsociable hours.

About You: The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, be able to work independently and to tight timescales while building and developing cross‑functional relationships quickly and effectively. Successful candidates will receive training with the long‑term view of becoming fully fledged Field Engineers, a commitment to high standards and an awareness of the importance and understanding of accurate documentation, an open approach to learning and a desire to progress in this field is a must. A clean UK driving licence is mandatory for this role and candidates will be required to successfully obtain security clearance.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of the Field Operations Manager to support Engineers in maintaining Jenoptik technologies.
  • Activities may include assisting Engineers with site surveys for new ANPR installations.
  • Undertake field service tasks and maintenance activities i.e., calibrations, annual maintenance routines, and servicing faulty equipment.
  • Assist in the production of calibration certificates and site‑specific data files.
  • Recording of time and management of work orders within service management tool.
  • Understanding documentation of site surveys.
  • Produce weekly timesheets.
  • Assisting when requested to ensure that faults are resolved within the agreed Service Level Agreement (SLA) and that the customer is regularly updated on progress.
  • Ensure that assets are registered on the system and that asset status is correctly reported within the service management system.
  • Ensure that faults are correctly recorded against assets.
  • Ensure that work orders are completed within the agreed target SLA and that Field Service Reports (FSR’s) are completed within service management system.
  • Comply to company policies and procedures and follow the procedures as defined within the company’s Quality Management System (QEMS) i.e., returns, stock management, incident reporting and updates, system calibrations, and risk assessments.
  • Return of faulty equipment for service.
  • Action work tasks via service management tool.
  • Maintain a positive and professional image of Jenoptik when dealing with customers and third parties.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, communicating technical issues to customers and stakeholders in a way they’ll understand (Essential).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, nurturing good working relationships with customers and peers (Essential).
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise tasks effectively (Essential).
  • IT literate with an interest in developing further skills in this area (Essential).
  • Needs to demonstrate patience and understanding and show an aptitude for training / transferring technical knowledge.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for negotiating and the management of third parties as required.
  • Sound understanding of TCP/IP networking technologies including 3G/4G, wireless, routing, and fibre optics (Desirable).
  • IT literate with knowledge of PC configuration and communications (Desirable).
  • Experience of a range of Windows OS and Linux (Desirable).
  • Good understanding of Construction design management (CDM) (Desirable).
  • A good working knowledge within the Highways environment (Desirable).
