Overview

The Business Development and Communications Specialist is directly responsible for supporting the efforts of the

  • London Business Development and Communications Senior Manager
  • , as well as supporting the
  • Marketing Department’s Business Development, Communications and Public Relations

Digital Programs teams.

This is a varied role that includes elements of marketing, business development, communications, public relations, marketing technology, and events spanning the firm’s practice groups, client teams, and lawyers.

This position works collaboratively with other Marketing Department team members throughout the firm to provide cohesive support on strategic initiatives and key projects to ensure coordination, effective engagement with firm resources, and high-quality execution of strategic projects and initiatives across departments.

  • Primary Responsibilities
  • Internal client-facing leadership of several go-to-market groups and support of practice planning process and execution on actionable goals.
  • Provides project implementation support to his/her direct supervisor and other members of the Business Development, Communications, and Digital Programs teams, as assigned.
  • Business development management and support, including creation of pitch material, presentations (Power Point), proposals, and timelines; proofreading and pitch preparation.
  • Assist and manage the communications and PR efforts of the London office and work closely with the London PR agency and London business development and communications senior manager to drive the London communications strategy.
  • Sponsorship coordination and event management, including generating mailing lists, creating and distributing invitations, securing approvals, budget control, developing ad concepts and copy, maintaining RSVP lists and creating name tags, project planning, business development targeting, debrief activities, and related activities.
  • Act as project lead on webinar process, delegating responsibilities across departments and ensuring deadlines and deliverables are handled and met.
  • Coordinate distribution of client alerts, including collaboration with conflict checks, proofing, obtaining approvals, and supporting general efforts of quality control and exigent delivery.
  • Conduct research on competitors, clients, prospects, markets, etc.
  • Support effective lateral partner integration in support of business development opportunities and objectives.
  • Directories and surveys management, including project management and submission preparation.
  • Update and track metrics related to communications and business development efforts/opportunities.
  • Draft, edit, and facilitate content for firm website and intranet.
  • Track matters for practice and industry groups.
  • Process, edit, and post lawyer biographies on the firm’s website, make general edits to the website and update related practice literature.
  • Support firm- and department-wide initiatives with additional responsibilities as requested.

Education and Experience

  • Five or more years of marketing/business development experience preferably in a law firm or other professional services organisation.
  • Degree-level qualification is preferred. Marketing, Communications, or Business is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook), experience with Inter Action, Vuture and Ruby is a plus.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Comfort interfacing with and providing strategic guidance to the leadership team, partners and other fee earners.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels: ability to communicate with an engaging, diplomatic and professional demeanor in-person, by video-call, phone and in writing.
  • Effective, clear and concise oral and written skills in English.
  • Ability to generate written deliverables for internal and external audiences, often on short notice.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to corral busy team members and take initiative.
  • Self-motivated and able to work under own autonomy or as part of a team.
