We’re a small, family-run accountancy practice based in Bishop’s Stortford, providing bookkeeping, payroll, and full accountancy services to a loyal and growing client base. As we continue to expand, we’re looking for a fully qualified accountant who enjoys autonomy, teamwork, and long-term stability - someone who values great client relationships, collaboration, and wants to help shape the future of the practice.
The Role
- We’re seeking an experienced accountant with 5+ years’ practice experience who can manage their own client portfolio while working collaboratively within our close-knit team.
- Manage your own portfolio of clients end-to-end (bookkeeping, VAT, management and statutory accounts, and tax).
- Prepare year-end accounts and corporation tax computations.
- Communicate directly with clients, offering advice and support in plain English.
- Support, guide, and mentor junior team members to help them develop skills and confidence.
- Assist with client onboarding and ensure smooth transitions for new clients.
- Manage payroll for clients (PAYE, pensions, CIS).
- Contribute ideas and take initiative to help grow and improve the practice.
- Collaborate with the team - we work together, not in silos.
- Work both from our Bishop’s Stortford office and on-site with clients to deliver hands-on support and strengthen relationships.
- Get involved in occasional local networking or business events, helping to raise the profile of the practice.
About You
- Fully qualified (AAT / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a UK accountancy practice
- Confident with cloud accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent, etc.)
- Excellent client communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable working on-site with clients and attending local networking events
- Reliable, organised, and able to use your own initiative
- Enjoys supporting and mentoring junior staff
- Team-focused and keen to contribute to a positive working culture
- Looking for a long-term role within a growing small practice
- Reliability and commitment are essential.
