We are partnering with a leading global organisation to appoint an experienced Data Governance Director on an interim basis. This is a critical leadership role requiring an individual who can seamlessly blend strategic vision with hands-on delivery.

The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Chief Data Officer, you will be responsible for leading and advancing the organisation's data governance agenda while ensuring robust operational execution. You will work closely with executive stakeholders, providing direction on governance, data quality, regulatory compliance, AI governance, and data modernisation initiatives. This is not a role for someone who operates purely at board level. We are seeking an individual who remains close to the detail, enjoys solving complex data challenges, and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves to deliver results.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and evolve enterprise-wide data governance frameworks
- Drive improvements in data quality, ownership, stewardship and controls
- Develop governance reporting, dashboards and performance measures
- Partner with senior business leaders and executive stakeholders
- Present governance strategy, progress and recommendations to the Executive Leadership Team
- Support AI governance initiatives and responsible AI adoption
- Identify opportunities to modernise data management practices
- Drive governance-related transformation programmes from strategy through to execution
- Ensure appropriate regulatory and compliance controls are embedded across data processes
Required Experience
- Significant experience leading Data Governance functions within complex organisations
- Strong understanding of data quality, controls, policies and governance frameworks
- Experience operating within regulated environments
- Proven ability to engage and influence C-suite and executive stakeholders
- Experience driving data transformation and governance maturity programmes
- Knowledge of AI governance, emerging technologies and modern data practices
- Hands-on technical capability, including exposure to SQL, data analysis or related technical disciplines
- Experience creating governance metrics, dashboards and operational reporting

- A strong technical foundation in data, analytics or data science
- A strategic mindset combined with a pragmatic delivery focus
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- A genuine passion for data and innovation
- The ability to articulate complex concepts simply and effectively

Contract Details
- Day Rate: £500-£600 per day (exceptional candidates may command more)
