Role Overview

As an SEN Tutor, you will deliver individualised 1:1 tuition to learners with complex needs who are currently not accessing mainstream education. You will adapt learning to suit each child’s academic level, emotional wellbeing, and communication needs, working closely with families and professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver personalised tuition sessions tailored to individual learning needs
  • Adapt teaching approaches to support SEN and SEMH needs, including ASD, ADHD, PDA, and Down syndrome
  • Create and implement individual learning plans
  • Provide emotional and pastoral support in a calm, inclusive environment
  • Monitor progress and maintain accurate session records
  • Work collaboratively with parents, carers, local authorities, and professionals
  • Attend relevant reviews (e.g. PEP or EHCP meetings) where required

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN/SEMH
  • Strong understanding of neurodiversity and inclusive education practices
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships
  • Calm, patient, and flexible approach
  • Confident working independently in 1:1 settings
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • (Formal teaching qualifications such as QTS or PGCE are not required for these roles.)
