JDR is recruiting on behalf of a well-established electronics manufacturing client based in Newport.
The Role:
The Quote Lead plays a key role in supporting the Proposals Manager by generating accurate global labour and standard build times to support competitive and profitable quotations for both new and existing customers. The position involves interpreting customer data packs, engineering drawings, and build specifications to produce standard labour times using automated tools and manual estimation for non-standard processes. Working closely with Production Engineering, NPI, Test, Purchasing, and wider Engineering teams, the role ensures labour standards accurately reflect physical build data and evolving processes. The role also contributes to continuous improvement by reviewing existing build times, identifying optimisation and automation opportunities, and supporting quotation accuracy and margin improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Proposals Manager in producing quotations for new and existing customers
- Interpret customer-supplied data packs, including drawings, specifications, and documentation
- Log and manage RFQs, create and maintain central quote folders, and keep departmental records up to date
- Generate standard labour times using automated tools for standard processes and manual estimation for non-standard activities (e.g. integration, conformal coating, hand soldering)
- Coordinate with NPI, Production Engineering, Test, and Purchasing teams to produce accurate standard times
- Provide completed standard times to documentation control for system upload
- Support the Purchasing bid function and develop skills to provide cover where required
- Review existing build times and monitor processes to ensure standards reflect actual build data
- Identify opportunities for process optimisation and automation to support margin improvement
About You:
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and Valor
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings
- Working knowledge of eDrawings and BOM Connector (or willingness to learn)
- Strong attention to detail and mechanical reasoning
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Strong customer service mindset
- Good interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach
- Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage multiple requests
- Willingness to take ownership and push beyond comfort zones
- Confident IT user
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C (or equivalent) and above
