JDR Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing logistics business for a
Logistics Operator to join their busy freight forwarding team in Newport. This role is primarily focused on sea freight operations
, with some involvement in air freight
We are keen to hear from an experienced Logistics Operator, but we would also welcome applications from enthusiastic trainees with a genuine interest in developing a career within international logistics.

Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage sea freight import and export shipments from origin through to final delivery.
- Support air freight bookings for customer accounts as required.
- Prepare and process shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading, HAWBs, MAWBs, labels and associated paperwork.
- Track and monitor shipments, providing timely updates to customers.
- Arrange transport bookings and maintain accurate records within the freight management system.
- Liaise with shippers, consignees, overseas agents, carriers, customs brokers and freight forwarders.
- Check Dangerous Goods documentation and ensure shipments comply with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Arrange customs clearance and ensure import documentation is accurate and complete.
- Prepare customer quotations and provide efficient freight solutions.
- Book and coordinate final deliveries.
- Investigate and report any freight damage, loss or shipment discrepancies.
- Deliver excellent customer service while managing multiple shipments and meeting deadlines.
About You
We\'re looking for someone who is organised, proactive and enjoys working in a busy environment.
Experienced candidates should have
- Previous experience in freight forwarding or logistics operations.
- Strong knowledge of sea freight (preferred).
- Experience in air freight operations would be an advantage.
- Good understanding of customs procedures and shipping documentation.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Trainee candidates should have
- A genuine interest in logistics, freight forwarding or international trade.
- Strong administration and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and a willingness to learn.
- Good IT skills and attention to detail.
- A positive attitude and the ability to work as part of a team.
