We are looking for a skilled Mechanical / Plant Engineer to support the smooth and efficient operation of site machinery and equipment. This role is key to ensuring plant reliability, minimising downtime, and maintaining a safe working environment through proactive and reactive maintenance. You will be hands-on, technically strong, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned, preventative, and reactive mechanical maintenance across all plant and equipment.
  • Respond promptly to machinery faults and breakdowns, diagnosing issues efficiently to restore production as quickly as possible.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring faults and suggesting long-term engineering solutions.
  • Complete maintenance and repair work safely while production is running, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Deliver a strong preventative maintenance programme with a focus on reliability and equipment performance.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety regulations, company standards, and legal requirements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and communicate effectively with production and engineering teams.
  • Manage time effectively to ensure engineering resource is used efficiently and downtime is kept to a minimum.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Time-served Mechanical Engineer or equivalent, ideally with a recognised apprenticeship or formal engineering qualification.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Competent in MIG / MAG welding.
  • Proactive, practical, and solution-focused approach to engineering challenges.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and meet tight operational deadlines.
  • Strong team player with the ability to communicate clearly at all levels, both written and verbal.
  • Committed to ongoing development and continuous improvement.
